Elder Scrolls: Legends Last Season's Meta-analysis

    Last Season's Meta-analysis

    Posted: 04 Jul 2020 11:40 PM PDT

Last month, I recorded every match that I had in an excel sheet. I thought I would share some of my findings.

First, I would like to state that I just started my Emergency Medicine Residency, so I didn't have much time to play, nor tweak my decks. It certainly showed in my placement. The prior season I placed in the top 400 legends. This season I didn't even crack the top 1,000. I had breezed through up until Thief rank, winning ~80% of my games using 8 different decks. I primarily used an Aggro assassin deck and Mid-Dagoth deck up to this point each with win-rates at ~90%. However, I did make my first Invade Battlemage deck and it also went 9-1 in its first 10 matches. It's final record for the season was 9-7 though, lol. Once I reached Thief rank, my win-rate dropped to about 60% globally and this persisted into legend ranks. Usually my win-rate at Thief/Legend is closer to 70-75% (until about top 400 or so), so this was a bit frustrating. It was like hitting a wall.

So, without further ado, stats for ranked games....

    Total Games Played: 220
    Number of Decks used: 20
My top 3 decks by win %: 1. Aggro mono red, 2. Aggro Assassin, 3. Mid-Dagoth
My top 3 most played decks: 1. Aggro Assassin, 2. Mid-Dagoth, 3. Aggro Mono Red
My top 3 most fun decks:

    1. weird proph/mid/control crusader?, 2. Mid-Dagoth, 3. Aggro Mono Red

Top 3 Most Popular decks played by opponents:
    1. Guildsworn: 21 times (I estimate roughly 80% were invade decks)
    2. The Empire of Cyrodiil, House Telvanni: 19 times
    3. House Hlaalu: 16 times

Top 3 Least Popular decks played by opponents:
    1. Mono green, mono purple, mono yellow, mono neutral: 0 times
    2. Mono blue: 1 time
    3. Daggerfall covenant, Mono Red, House Dagoth: 4 times

Top 3 easiest decks to beat (according to my +/- win/loss facing them):
    1. House Hlaalu (14-2, win%: 87.5%)
    2. House Telvanni (14-5, win%: 73.6%),
    3. Ebonheart Pact (9-3, win%: 75%)
Top 3 hardest decks to beat (according to my +/- win/loss facing them):
    1. Guildsworn (7-14, win%: 33%) Note that I primarily used aggro decks. (invade-bait)
    2. Monk (3-7, win%: 30%) The heal capacity of monk wrecked my aggro decks.
    3. Battlemage (4-7, win%: 36%) Invade BM, and even prophecy BM were tough.

    Some things I noticed:
    1. Aggro Assassin was not as effective this past season as the season prior.
    2. Invade Guildsworn is still perhaps the most popular deck in the Meta.
    3. The Meta still uses decks from all classes and is still making shifts.
    4. Scout became more popular late in the season, along with Monk and Pact.
    5. The prevalence of Invade punishes pure aggro decks
    6. The most popular decks seem to revolve around Invade (i.e. control vs. invade)
    7. The prevalence of Telvanni (in response to invade?) rewards aggro decks
    8. The game is still quite competitive and active.

    Noble Gauntlet

So I'm playing in the noble gauntlet with a shout deck. I'm playing someone else with a shout deck. Its late game, and he plays a level 3 Call Dragon and NOTHING happens. He promptly forfeits the game. I think "huh that was weird" and didn't think much of it. Well, the same thing just happened to me and needless to say, I'm pretty pissed. I didn't realize that just because you can't include legendaries you can't summon a random one. It kind of defeats the purpose of a card that isn't banned from tournament play! What a waste of a card, especially one that matters so late in the game!

This is going to sound so, so dumb to most of you lol

But I have no idea what anyone is saying when they describe a deck as mid or aggro or anything along those lines. I've played ESL casually on and off for 3 years so I'm pretty familiar with the mechanics of the game, but I've never come across these terms until I looked at this sub for the first time a week ago. Is anyone kind and/or bored enough to explain the basic terms you guys use pretty regularly?
