How dead is the game nowadays?

I used to play pretty seriously about a year back and just got back into it with a new deck after realizing my old one has fallen far, far out of the meta. I've read that development is halted, but there's also still new events happening, enough of a player base that it never takes more than 30 seconds to find a round, and occasional tournaments being held. Is the game actually as dead as people say?
