    A heavenly unification

    Posted: 17 Oct 2019 09:23 AM PDT

So I missed the opportunity to win the lottery today but it was worth it. Been playing Unite Tribunal against Invade Guildsworn and it all happened in the last turn. It was a pretty long control game.

With 8 health remaining I was about to lose, my opponent had lethal with a board full of daedras and I had few creatures and Kaalgrontiid present on the board as well as Halls of Colossus whom I generated from tinkering. For some reason the opponent decided to wipe my board clear (probably bm) and passed the turn leaving only the support. I drew Mannimarco, seeing that I have no way to win with 12 magicka I decided to check if I would've pulled all the colors and won the next turn. And oh boy, this clownfiesta happened...

I played Mannimarco into Abnur Tharn, activated Mannimarco's summon into Merric and the chad pulled two red items and Glass Greaves which discounted the EXACT card I needed to win me the match, that being Unite the Houses. That was by far my luckiest win. My legs were getting numb from sitting in the bathroom for so long.

Does anyone else think? "One of these cards, needs a slight adjustment?"

    Budget deck lists

    Posted: 17 Oct 2019 08:45 AM PDT

With the influx of new players, there is a larger than typical demand for budget decks. I thought this would be a great opportunity for a good deckbuilder to go through some of the more popular ladder decks and make budget versions of them. Unfortunately, I am not a good deckbuilder. So instead I thought I would bring my skills as someone who is adept at searching legends-decks to help. Here is a list that new players might want to peruse for ideas: https://www.legends-decks.com/decks/all/1/rating-down/month?f-search=budget&f-type=&f-patch=&f-pve=both&f-spec-pve=0&filters=Filter

Some pointers on using legends-decks to find budget lists:

    • Don't check "Filter with my collection." It might seem like a great idea, but 9 times out of 10 it's better to leave it off. There might be an amazing deck that you have every card for except a single unique legendary. Or a few cards from a story expansion you haven't unlocked yet.
    • Filter by time (specifically, last 2 months), but not by patch. Leaving the time filter at the default of 2 weeks excludes lots of decks that are still totally viable on the ladder. Similarly, filtering by the current patch will exclude decks from the previous patch that are also totally viable on the ladder. If you don't find anything you like this way, try filtering by all time but most recent patch. The time filter applies to when the deck was created, not when it was most recently modified, and sometimes deckbuilders will update older decks for the current patch. This combo will catch those instances.
    • Look at the Cost and Missing columns, but don't rule out decks just because those numbers are high. You can't filter by those columns, but you can sort on them. Obviously, cheaper decks are more budget friendly. But in most instances you can substitute for missing legendary and epic cards.
    • Search for "budget" in the main search box. Folks are pretty good about including that term in the deck name when appropriate.
    • Know what can be substituted and what can't. This is deeper than I have time to go into, but there are some widely used epics and legendaries that can be substituted pretty easily. Unique legendaries can almost always be substituted, since it's hard to build a good deck that requires drawing a specific card out of 50 or 75. That being said, be wary of decks tagged as combo, since there are a few combo decks built around specific legendaries. For non-unique legendaries, lots of powerful ones can be substituted while keeping the deck viable (Daggerfall Mage, Blood Dragon, Kyreeve Champion is one folks are experimenting with at the moment). But some have unique effects and you are better off avoiding decks that contain them -- Odirniran Necromancer is the main one that comes to mind, but there are others like Rebellion General, and the current iterations of Faded Wraith and Bloody Hand Chef decks are looking to abuse those cards in particular so substitutions would be pointless. Alfiq Conjurer is one you are likely to see in lots of decks that can be substituted but is also very powerful so doesn't really have a similar-but-weaker replacement.

Also, if any of you talented deckbuilders want to go make budget versions of strong decks, I suspect lots of folks will be grateful.

How do you all build decks?

    Posted: 16 Oct 2019 10:56 PM PDT

Hey all, thought this might be a fun question (and might help me improve my deck building along the way haha). I like to build decks around themes (like building a deck themed around Potema or the Dwemer, or building decks based around past characters that I've played in mainline games). I'm one of those players that likes to build around aesthetics, which usually means my decks aren't very good haha, but that's fine with me, since I'm a very casual player.

What about y'all? How do you build decks? Do you use specific sites or decklists? Do you look at what streamers/youtubers are doing and build those decks? Or are you like me and build bad and casual decks around themes :P.

Disconnecting because you lost, gives me great joy

    Posted: 17 Oct 2019 01:33 AM PDT

More and more players disconnect when they are about to lose. To me it is a great sign that the loss hurt. Maybe something is wrong with me, but my victory tastes even better if my opponent disconnects this way.

I have plenty of other things to do while playing TESL. So please keep it up!

Unexpected Arrival and Unite the Houses

    Posted: 16 Oct 2019 10:01 PM PDT

There's a subtle synergy between Unexpected Arrival and Unite the Houses.

There are only two 1 cost Daedra currently in the game, one of them being Red and the other Blue, meaning playing Unexpected Arrival without a gate would consistently pull 1 of the 2. This allows us to build a Unite the Houses deck without running many of the subpar RNG cards.

This was found out by my friend Kalurid and made into a deck here (Unexpected Unite).

Dominion might not be the best class for it, but so far the deck is seeing success on high legend ranks. It should be a great starting point for anyone wanting to give the combo a try.

Personally, I feel this could push Unite decks to a new level competitively. I always thought that all the random card generators Unite decks used to run, while can be fun sometimes, eventually hindered the deck's success on a high level. This changes things.

Are hand buffs supposed to be visible on revealed cards?

Is it a problem to see the opponents name openly in a stream? Would you like me to censor names to keep anonymity?
