Without new expansions the meta can finally be developed to its extremes

Now that TESL is essentially a completed game, as in no more real changes are forthcoming, this gives ample time to truly crack the code and see how the meta can eventually end up.

    Prowl Smuggler (underappreciated commons)

    Hey guys,

while I risk exposing a potentially "secret weapon" (insofar as I've never seen her hit the table against me), I feel our solidarity as a community is more important during these twilight years.

I wanted to share one of my absolute favorite cards in the game, in the hopes that others may come to appreciate it and in the far-off hope that some errant designer will notice and recreate her effect in their own game. So, without further ado, the Prowl Smuggler.

    She is almost always relevant:

What makes Prowls one of my favorite cards is that she satisfies the conditions of a card that's "always relevant." There's nothing more irritating for me than top-decking something useless and wasting my turn (something that *Really* irritates me in magic, and which ESL's two lane mechanic greatly alleviates). Normally, this involves cards that can take on any magicka cost either through mechanics such as Lethal or through scaling stats--which is where Prowls comes in. If left alone, she can run away with the game (albeit a tad slowly, but she's a 2-drop goshdarnit!)

But unlike most pilfers and self-buffing cards, Prowls comes in at good stats for her cost at a 2-magick 3/2 body! This makes her relevant even during the very first turns of the game! It also makes trading her away a much easier prospect to swallow.

The fact that a *Common* can have this much impact is a huge deal for me, especially coming from MTG where rarity is basically an indicator of playability.

    She is ridiculously flexible:

Unlike most pilfers and self-buffing cards (again), Prowls' ability has some incredible utility if properly leveraged. The fact that it's not a straight +1/+0, but a +1/+0 *item* equip-able to any friendly, makes it one of my favorite in the whole game.

While the effect may seem small, a 1-power difference is what often clinches kills and wins. Even by itself, letting a fellow 3/2 or a Haunting Spirit eat a Young Mammoth or what-have-you is a massive value swing. That's before we start getting into synergies.

Got charge? They'll love a free dagger. Got 5+ power triggers? *Free dagger*! Got item synergy? FREE DAGGER!

    She's REALLY fun:

Prowls' ability adds a great, fun layer of complexity that'll keep the game from "playing itself." Thanks to the importance of order-of-operations, even a simple +1/+0 pilfer can have wildly different effects depending on the decisions you make rather than just the cards you draw!

I've missed *many* a lethal because I forgot to count the +1/+0 in my calculations, either when just hitting face or when trying to remove a stubborn guard from another lane. I've missed MANY more when considering more complex interactions, like playing a Rally Boar *first* so Prowls' can rally --> give the boar a knife to clinch the kill on a guard--> making sure/hoping the rallies hit the Forerunner in my hand...things can turn into a real rube-Goldberg machine that can generate some real zany wins!

    Tl;dr

She's a common, her ability is deceptively simple; she's one of my favorite cards in the game.

Do you have any commons that you feel are underappreciated? Feel free to shout them out in the comments!

Now that the game is in Dev Mode, they should introduce a monthly rotation

    Posted: 23 Dec 2019 11:24 AM PST

It'd be a great way to keep the game from becoming incredibly stale, it's allow new cards to shine, and let's be real, it was long overdue anyways.

    The Rally Boar

    Posted: 22 Dec 2019 04:04 PM PST

First iteration of a Rally Boar deck I'm halfway happy with. Ended up including a LOT of low-cost cards, since drawing them always seemed to be a lot harder than it oughta have been.

Very basic template before I head into "dude-spawn", i.e augmenting the Rally-Boar with empire-style flooding.

For this, the game of the game IS DRAW! DRAW! DRAW! ...and also rally; sometimes charge. Card draw and charge cards are basically the cream-of-the-crop when it comes to hand-buffing, so get as many good ones as possible. Pretty simple on the onset, but order of operations from the rally mechanic and reliance on buffs gives the deck some good complexity.

Rally creatures, apart from the lovely assassin, really kind of suck. You have to keep board control to get the buffs to start stacking. Other buffs, such as gavel-sword-assault help keep them on the board. Sword's ability to mobilize is super clutch, as is assault's draw.

    Plenty of prophecies help too!

    Goblins: strongest deck now?

    Posted: 22 Dec 2019 09:10 PM PST

It has the benefits of aggro, except it can handle situations other decks can't.

Here are the problems that other aggro decks (like Burn Assassin run into):

    • Just damage - not much utility
    • Auto-loses to Drains and Guards
    • Bad for trading
    • Few removal options
    • Lack of plussing capabilities

Goblins can swarm and deal high damage like other aggro decks, while having more outs to threats. Goblins may not be the best in mid-late game, but I feel like at least they have more of a fighting chance in mid-late game.

    Things I've learned in Goblins

    • Dual color aggro (majority of the deck being Goblin cards) helps the consistency
    • Drain Vitality isn't as good as I thought it would be. I rarely noticed the impact of a LV3 Vitality as much as I did with the impact of the Goblin Skulk engine.
    • Cornerclub Gambler is good for discarding the free cards gained from Shaman and Skulk
    • Mournhold Traitor works very well. The Goblins can quickly remove the guard token anyway.
    • Finish Off isn't as good as it seems ; it's not putting a body on the board to help add pressure and damage

Overdraw Gauntlet: which deck would win?

Gauntlet rules are: 1) you may include 2 cards in your deck. 2) you start with 12 magicka.

    What deck would win?

You All Talk Like If The Game Is Shut Down

    Posted: 22 Dec 2019 12:44 PM PST

When they clearly said the game is not shut down. There are just be no new sets anymore, and its good - especially for f2p players - that you can actually have a hope to complete collection at some day, unlike chasing 3-4 new sets per year in other card games. Stop whining jeez, see it as a good thing. Some games dont need new content to remain cool ;)

    *keeps hand*

    Posted: 22 Dec 2019 07:04 PM PST

Most content creators never cared for this game and where in it only for the money.

    Posted: 22 Dec 2019 10:59 PM PST

That's why they spit up excuses that nobody believes to quit, like gicaforta who said he quit because he loves the game too much. seriously? how the fuck does that make sense?

Anw, I've discovered some good content creators recently, one of them is worginator, and the other is Captain Britten. I think worginator is really funny and he knows the TES lore, unfortuntely he's one of those strange furry weirdos, and captain britten videos are extremely poor in quality, perhaps he's the youtuber with the worst camera I've ever seen.

I'm kind of glad that some of the most cancerous hypocrites left the game for good and won't come back. But we have to find the good ones who really care about TESL and support them.
