    Recently came back to TESL.

    Recently came back to TESL.

    https://preview.redd.it/3du1kklslpb41.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=4d8cb3a52ea663e34cb56cd70ab2adf453f522ce

I came back to TESL a few months ago (just in time for Jaws of Oblivion) after a year's absence. It's exciting to have a huge pool of new cards to play with (Alliance War, Moons of Elsweyr, Isle of Madness, Jaws of Oblivion). Bad timing, what with the discontinuation of support, but I'm hooked.

At present I'm at 9 consecutive wins (at Legend) with an original Mentor's Ring deck. Despite the preponderance of Goblin/Curses decks (which the developers seem to have left in an overpowered state), the meta seems to be fairly diverse.

TESL is easily my favourite CCG in terms of strategy, art style and original deck building potential. Despite the development situation, there seems to be no shortage of players. Queue times are short. I rarely run into the same opponents. So I'm staying.

    Observations

I'm not particularly impressed with the game mechanics that Sparkypants introduced (Consume, Wax/Wane and Invade). All of them shoehorn players into making particular decks, rather that opening up creative space. It's like "We thought of this deck. Here are the cards to make it."

The game mechanics in Houses of Morrowind (Rally, Betray, Exalt, etc.) were all highly flexible and did not limit you to a pre-conceived deck type. Sparkypants' game mechanics all force you to play an un-original deck, which depending on its power level will either be a short-lived gimmick (Consume and Wax/Wane) or a metagame disaster (Invade).

That said, there are still plenty of good standalone cards in the new expansions, and I've barely begun experimenting with most of them. Dark Seducer and Sentinel Reclaimer have been real game-changers for me. The Isle of Madness adventure was great.

Question: What are your three favourite cards from the recent (free, premium) collection?

As for me: Ordinator, Altar of Spellmaking and Explore.

Ordinator of the Almsivi: Strong stats; strong against aggro; enables Oathman; summonable with Conscription. Solid defensive card early game that scales for late game. It should have just been called Ordinator though (much stronger name without the suffix).

Altar is not the most sensible or reliable of the new cards (and you have to build around it) but easily the most interesting. Fun fact: Altar + Oathman gives you the full combo.

Explore. I love Aldora, Ratway Prospector and Voice of Balance. Explore was a huge bump in power for these cards.

    Token action mage, Ballista Gauntlet

    Posted: 19 Jan 2020 04:52 AM PST

Just finished the gauntlet with this surprisingly well performing token mage list i filled with wonky inclusions to mess around with the special lanes. First off I decided to build something aggressive since the ballista lane deals damage to your opponent. And what's better than tokens for filling up a lane? Tower lane made me decide on mage because of obvious synergy with Ayrenn, and I included a bunch of 1 or 2 of actions, dragonknights and manic jacks just to see what unexpected blowouts i would manage.

T1 trainer into t2 imperial reinforcements (with ring) was too explosive on board to ever lose tempo, soul split could turn an easily ignored imperial grunt into 6/4 worth of stats for 1 magicka and Ayrenn in tower lane made defense of Bruma 0-cost all by herself. Even made me drop the third copy of fervor because it felt too slow.

Final stats: 5-3, 6-3, 9-0, currently at #59 and hopefully getting my first top 100 placement.

What's your opinion on this one?

    Therana

    Posted: 18 Jan 2020 09:33 PM PST

I used Therana a bit when I first started but havent for a while. I just made a pretty fun shout sorcerer deck with her though. I dont see her used all that often, does anyone have any cool Therana synergies or decks they like to use? She can really take over a game if you can keep her alive.

    Afking on purpose

    Posted: 19 Jan 2020 05:04 AM PST

Why is this still not an offense? There should be atleast soul gem punishment. 10 sould gems/afk round is a fair price. In my tesl career I have wasted atleast 24 hours, because of scrubs ,that go afk ,when they see they are going to lose. Life is too short for this. And many of you said ,that punishment is loss. But sometimes your workbreak is over and you dont have the time to finish or you are just in a hurry. Definitely can wish only the worst to all scrubs who do that. How hard is to click concede???

    Another garbage mechanic: Sun-in-Shadow

    Posted: 18 Jan 2020 11:30 PM PST

[Sun-in-Shadow]'s ability will not activate if the other creature is already shackled. You don't get to draw the action, you can't make permanent the already shackled creature. It's trash.
