Card Discussion Thread - Wood Orc Headhunter

Drem yol lok, wunduniik. Welcome to the latest card discussion thread. Today, we'll be discussing Wood Orc Headhunter.

Please feel free to talk about anything you find interesting about the card: design, effect on the meta, the art, sounds, animations, lore or anything else.

Normally I use the UESP photos because they are transparent and thus darkmode-friendly, but for whatever reason the UESP photo for this guy was low-resolution and weirdly squashed so I had to find an alternative.

    Set: Core

    Example Decklists:

    • The Orc Warrior precon in the TESL:A client prominently features this card.

    Strategy:

    • This has one of the best cost/damage ratios among Charge cards, right up there with Shadowmere and slighly below the godly Nord Firebrand.
    • Could be useful as a finisher in aggro decks, since a couple of orcs (Orc Clan Captain, Morkul Gatekeeper, and slightly less often Battlerage Orc) see a lot of play in aggro decks.
    • This card is like Crusader's Assault: when it works, it works. But when it doesn't, you'll wish you had something - anything - else in your hand. I'd say it's high risk high reward.
    • Potential OTKs with this guy? I don't see him in Mentor's Ring since {{Rampaging Minotaur}} also offers Breakthrough, plus a guaranteed Charge, and costs 1 less.
    • This guy is an incredibly solid card that looks good in practice but doesn't see play because there simply isn't a meta deck he can slot into (kind of like Lyris and Syl, who are both too slow for aggro but too aggressive for mid and long).

Trivia: There are different subspecies of Orcs, some of which are Orsinium Orcs, Iron Orcs, and Wood Orcs. Wood Orcs are native to Valenwood.

    Mixed Feelings on this Gauntlet....

    Posted: 06 Apr 2020 09:10 AM PDT

So first of all, I think its important to note for context that this was the best I've ever done at a Gauntlet since I started playing last March...so subsequently this can not be passed off as 'sour grapes.'

Second, the positives first — 1. I loved the lane alteration and this, if im not mistaken, was the first time this gauntlet was done at least since they made their return. Personally, I'd be happy EVERY week with a gauntlet that screws with the lane abilities. It refreshes the game for me and shakes it up just enough. 2. Deck size change was really interesting and in some cases I found it harder to build, but it all worked in that respect.

Third....negative (¡singular! mind you) — Invade almost sucked all the positive and nearly the life out of the entire thing. (And again I had my best gauntlet this week facing roughly 7-8 invade decks and beating half of them. Once with singleton). BUT when combined with exponential keyword growth as a structure, facing invade was both motivationally neutralizing and comical. I felt like those games I was in a metaphorical digital cartoon SNL skit and the cards were all in on it and everyone, up to but even probably including the invade player just completely bypassing any of the intrigue and making a mockery out of the game. If playing aggro elicits a race mentality, playing Invade elicits a throw-your-hands-up-this-is-pointless mindset that is unique for me with this game.....

I know the game is in maintenance mode, but I think I speak for a lot of people (and maybe u/CVH or u/Bathesda will see this) when I say, even if you just took a handful of polls on a select major elements and got the general consensus from the players to make one more very simple not even time consuming 'fan-service update' to just thank all of the loyal ones who have stuck around (some of us with our wallets out still ;) — look up how much I've spend on this game, seriously do it) and while the Asian client seems to be at least a beginning hit. I'd be surprised if it happens, but I think we all would be grateful if some of these glaring areas were simply modified and balanced.

    Managing inventory

    Posted: 06 Apr 2020 08:49 AM PDT

Hallo guys, I started the game yesterday for the first time due to steam weekend and covid. Overall I like the game but i dont know how to manage invetory. I am always out of those 60 slots (I like gathering resources would like to try some alchemy and provisioning). Basically like 3-4 hours in I just stored everything for my inventory to be full again roughly 2 hours later.

Any tips how to manage inventory? I am basically collecting all resources (mining/fish baits/food ingredience/beverage ingredience etc)

What do u think about 40 card decks in TESL ASIA instead of 50?

    Posted: 06 Apr 2020 08:40 AM PDT

    Hi,
Im just curious what you think about it?

    Whats good/bad?
I dont play the asian version so i dont know.
50 card decks feels like a bit too much especially considering the small starting hand.

If its a good thing it would be nice to implement in the old version although nothing that seems likely.

A beauty if the rally is timed right. Although the match is mostly over when someone plays Dagoth Ur.

Anyone know the status of https://teslegends.pro. I have been getting an error from the site for hours now. Have we lost the only deck archive site left?

    Great times of need.

    Posted: 05 Apr 2020 01:54 PM PDT

So I was just playing a fun deck and ran in yet another invade deck. You can guess the outcome and I´m now completely done and sick of it. So I come to you in great times of need to ask for the ultimate counter decks against invade. At this point i don´t even care if they are meta or not or if i get stomped by any other deck. All I wanna do I spit these players and see them rage quit. If they starve the fun out of players like me, imma now do the same. This will be my mission from now on.
