Queen Noob Here. Hot Topic! INVADE. What I've come to Understand.

    Posted: 04 Jan 2021 11:28 AM PST

Firstly, just a warning, I love commas and ... I misuse them at times... Lol

Per some conversations I've been a part of on Discord about INVADE... I want to share the perspective of a new player, me, and also share what I've come to understand from players who have been here since the beginning.

It seems like there's been a huge misunderstanding, lack of awareness/communication between new and long time players in regards to the subject of INVADE. From what i see, read, feel, its causing negative energy, which is having a negative effect throughout the game and its players.

    To the long time players,

I will say this about invade, as a new player, when I started getting cards for wins.. almost always invade cards. In the beginning, before I played invade, I played a yellow purple deck while hoping for red cards for a yellow red. I started to learn a lot about yellow (my favorite). Even then, I was getting mostly invade cards. I got enough invade cards to make an invade deck early on that was getting me more wins and gold, and helping me win against the games computer opponents to unlock stuff. It helped me progress and learn the game. It was way stronger than the starter cards and few reward cards i got that weren't invade. So the game itself pushes it on you, in my experience. Anyway, I learned the invade mechanic, built my deck up with DjFoR3sT's help, got some good legendaries in there.

THEN, I joined NPO, along with DJ.

It was then that I found out about invade being hated and a lot of long time players (not just from NPO) feeling disrespected by it. At that point, I had been playing mostly invade for around 2 or 3 weeks. I sold my invade legendaries and beefed up my yellow red deck. I still, at LEAST, 90% of the time, get invade cards along with my gold for wins. I even sold some of my epics and lower, and I've already gotten them all back as rewards... and some extras to convert to soul ruins.

This came to my mind as I'm getting invade cards all morning, so I figured I would share. Its really kind of frustrating that the game is pushing it on new players but it isn't accepted within the long time player community. I'm pretty sure the new players have no idea about the negativity surrounding invade. So, I learned the mechanic, got pretty good at working it, found ways to be creative with it, spent time and money. I was excited about it. No, I never wanted to play only invade. But it was a start and, I thought, a strong option to have in my deck collection. I do think there are ways to get creative with invade and make it interesting. I've experienced them. Also, invade doesn't always win, its a pain in the ass to play against, and no uncreative/unskilled jo shmo player will get anywhere serious in the legendary ranks with it. It has a lot of randomness and inconsistencies, which is a gamble for both players, but so do other mechanics and cards. I have often heard recently, that invade is cheating and the wins don't count. I have a hard time wrapping my head around how a mechanic in a game is "cheating" when.. 1. Its a mechanic option in game for deck building. 2. There are tons of other broken mechanics in said game, that are just as strong, if not stronger, that could be considered cheating, if invade is cheating.

Im hoping that sharing my perspective and experience can help lessen frustrations. Also to shed some light on a possible reason why so many new players are invading. And possibly, why theres more and more invade lately in general. Its not to disrespect you all or the game. I really hope that opening up the discussion to the community and bringing awareness to the subject helps the future of tesl stay alive, and its players stay happy. Heck, maybe we can get some new (talented) developers. ;)

Long time players, I may miss some points in this next part, so im hoping for long time players to further enlighten me and others in the comments in regards to what I say next.

To the new players and or players who don't know the backstory,

The game was around for a couple years when the original developers and Bethesda split ways. Invade was not around... YET. The majority of long time players, from what I see, read, feel, played the game for years, loved it the way it was, with a style of mechanics that took time and effort to build, learn, understand, and "complete" (for lack of a better word). They put a lot of time and money into building decks and learning the more difficult to run mechanics. It took longer to build up your arsenal, longer to progress, more money, and the mechanics took more experience and practice, to run to the best of their ability. After Bethesda and the original developers split...

The new developers came. They were crap in comparison to the previous ones from the very beginning. THEN, they came out with invade as a new mechanic... and after that, they announced game development would end.

So to a lot of (maybe not all) the die hard long time players of tesl, its a slap in the face. They feel like the new developers came in and broke the game. Like they took a big poo 💩 on tesl/ its loyal players and left it there to stink up the place. Not only did development stop, but they were left with invade as the new and final mechanic.. it was way off course from the others, totally different style, like being a piece of trash in the middle of a clean floor. Out of place basically. The fact that one can make a gate from not existing to pulling random keywords, multiple turns in a row, with lower end magicka... The competitor can only have so many gate killers in deck. And I doubt one would draw them every turn in order to keep up, if the match is going that way. If you do have enough gate killers to draw enough, then your deck is lacking some other necessary cards. When talking about a brand new to magicka player (such as myself) or an unskilled, throw your cards everywhere player (not me lol) invading a legend, it seems like the noob win has more to do with both players card draws, than experience/skill. This is far more prominent with invade than any other deck style. I can understand how its frustrating to someone who has put years into their magicka life and community. One more thing, to the new players. As it stands right now, from my own experince, A lot of the long time community here, will not recognize your wins as wins.. or respect your talent if you play invade.

After reading up on tesl, listening to the opinions of long time players and going through the tesl experience as a new player, I completely understand the conflict and the 2 main perspectives on the subject of invade. I'm sad to see the gaps in awareness, communication and understanding on this subject, assist the game and/or community, in feeling and/or spreading negative energy. I feel like the most recent developers (and Bethesda tbh) have left enough of a mess. After all, its not just about winning, not just about who's right or who's wrong or what's fair and not fair... I can only speak for myself on this part but aren't we also here to have fun, learn, be creative, connect and support eachother in keeping TESL alive and positive? The game that we love?

Love for all life, Live and let live, Spread good vibes, Peace and love,
