Thoughts on keeping cantrips in your opening hand? Posted: 20 Sep 2021 03:12 PM PDT Cantrip is a term from Magic: the Gathering which describes a cheap spell which draws another card (in addition to having another small effect). Some Cantrips-like cards in Legends include:
There are a few reasons you might have chosen these cards for your deck:
Do you have any dead-set rules for how you approach these cards? If your main interest in the card is simply to cycle and thin, is it a bad idea to keep these in your opening hand? In that they are cheap cycle cards, they can almost be thought of as wild cards or placeholders for another random card from your deck. It almost seems like keeping these cards in your opening hand is no different than drawing another random card on your opening hand and paying extra for it. Or, is there value in thinning your deck in the opening game? When you are actually interested in the other effect of these cards, then the reason for keeping them in your opening hand might be much more clear-cut. For instance, you might keep Rapid Shot if you also drew Daggerfall Mage. You might keep Scout's Report if you are playing a necromancer deck. You might keep Shadow Shift if you are playing a move deck and have Caravan Enforcer in hand (if people even play that card anymore, haha). Apologies if this is a dry topic. I actually thought it might be interesting to dive into an element of this game which seems simple on the surface. Maybe its more complicated than I think, so it would be interesting to hear some other thoughts. Edit: formatting and fixed a sentence. [link] [comments] | ||
