100 Cards Rated on the Ickter Scale

    Posted: 14 Dec 2021 05:31 PM PST

    old post

The Ickter Scale rates decks on a 5-point scale: (1) Aggro, (2) Midgro, (3) Mid, (4) Midtrol, (5) Control.

It's a scale of fast (1) to slow (5). Not a scale of bad and good.

I'm rating 100+ popular cards for which ranges of decks I personally think they're most optimal in.

The criteria for these ratings are explained in my Passive vs. Aggressive cards post.

This list isn't perfect or final. If I'm overlooking anything, let me know. And context matters too.

Almost every 12 cost card is exclusively 5. There are a few exceptions involving substantial cost reduction. The Ultimate Heist isn't actually a 12 cost card. Dagoth Ur could be 4 with Red Mountain.

    teslegends.pro bugged loader workaround

    teslegends.pro bugged loader workaround

As you may have noticed, the teslegends.pro website now loads forever when you open it. However the webpage is there, just behind a infinitely bugged loading screen. Here is a workaround that I found.

    Visual Guide

    1. Open Inspect Element by pressing f12 on your keyboard
    2. Click the preloader class as marked in the above image
    3. Uncheck the height option for the preloader as seen in the above image

Bit of a janky workaround, but I hope this helps people view the decks that are still on the site.

    Terms of Service Agreement update

    Posted: 14 Dec 2021 04:58 AM PST

For anyone else who got a little excited with the prompt today to accept recent changes to Zenimax's Terms of Service: I read the fine print and the updates are all pretty standard legal boilerplate that cover Zenimax's overall policies and practices etc. Nothing specific to any game in particular.

    Poop.

Anyways, got me thinking about what defines a 21st century business corporation like Zenimax who really is taking a huge part in molding humanity's future. With phrases like ". . . we've clarified that we may modify, restrict, suspend, or terminate your access or use of the Services for various reasons, including making harassing, threatening, embarrassing, or unwanted statements about ethnicity, sex, or gender."

This is important to note -- even in what a lot of people in the world would still dismiss these days as "just a video game company". Entertainment has always been a place where people freely spend their money and resources to get as much of it as they can. When companies like Zenimax focus on that given current technology and the up-and-coming evolutions like VR and AR (which really, are already maturing nicely), you get things like "video games" not just overtaking things like Hollywood, but it all blending together.

I mean, come on, we all know that what we envision and pine for in movies and games is to create alternate realities where anything is possible. THAT is the ULTIMATE in entertainment, and then some. And that isn't just happening in a few years, it's happening right now. And it's going to keep growing and it's going to grow fast.

Say what you will about the morals, ethics, motives and agendas of any big corporation, these days given our rapidly expanding global community and mindset, companies like Zenimax are a driving force behind what humanity becomes next. And when they make one of their ". . . most notable changes . . ." (yes that's a quote from the update) to be a statement of their rejection that people should be bigoted about someone's ethnicity, sex or gender, well.

    That's a pretty big deal.

All Keywords Ranked: Best to Worst

    Posted: 13 Dec 2021 10:02 AM PST

The ranking is arbitrary, and if you disagree with the placements, that's fine. The purpose of this post is to moreso explain the benefits of each keyword and what decks they benefit. (This may also serve as a beginner's guide).

    8) Regenerate - Maybe this isn't a bad keyword, and it lacks good cards with it. But an inherent problem is that in the early-game, creatures defense stats are too low to fully benefit from this. And late-game, players will just use removal. Usually, players focus regen creatures or avoid combat with them.

    7) Rally - This is a slow effect, requires waiting a turn to attack and then possibly waiting another turn to summon a creature, who will then have to wait a turn to attack. In many cases, champs are understatted to compensate for having Rally, and for tempo, giving a random creature +1/1 isn't worth your current creature losing a 1v1. (Ald Velothi Assassin is fire tho)

    6) Breakthrough - This keyword will cause you to smash runes, so it's not good for control. But in aggro, creatures have lower power early game, so that's less Breakthrough damage. Mid-range is the sweetspot for Breakthrough: since you're using big creatures like Belligerent Giant and you're not afraid to smash some runes.

    5) Lethal - This keyword tends to be on keywords with low offense. So essentially, you can kill almost any creature in combat but you're awful at pushing damage. Favors control decks. Usually not used in aggro.

    4) Charge - This tends to benefit aggro and mid-range who can use the charge to push damage, though there are some exceptions which work in control (like Viper). Maybe there aren't a ton of great cards for this keyword, but the keyword itself is very useful.

    3) Drain - This does nothing against control, but it's essential against aggro to mid decks, and you will face them on ladder, so any color that can run a few drains probably should.

    2) Ward - This is all-around good stuff. Helps aggro, mid and control. Helps you clear enemy creatures and resolve your own creatures effects. The issue with some of these keywords is that they're too slow and creatures get removed by actions before they can attack. But ward protects against the majority of actions.

    1) Guard - Protects your creatures. Protects your life. Forces the enemy to play how you want them to. Especially great against aggro, but good against all deck types. Creatures like Hive Defender and Emperor's Blade are huge tempo shifters.

    ---

Pilfer - You need to smash runes to get this, so it's often not good for Control. The downside of many of these cards is that. Generally, lower cost cards are better for pilfer because you can get away with a lot when you're ahead on the summon. Whereas later cards (i.e. Sails Through Storms) are just too slow and get hit with removal. (This was originally on the list at #6, but it's not a distributable keyword).*
