Another Arenapost - complaints, feels and recommendations

    Posted: 04 Nov 2019 03:56 AM PST

Another Arenapost from me and I think this will be my last one about this topic, because I will probably just stop playing Arena. I find that very sad, because in Hearthstone and TESL I did play a lot of Arena and I always enjoyed it, but right now I actually don't anymore.

    Here is my main complaints:

Getting to 7 wins has always been a great feeling, even 6 wins made me feel good. Now with this endless ladder going 7:2 or 6:3 makes me feel bad, same happens when I get the rewards they just don't feel any similar from what I gain by playing ladder.

Then compared to the ladder when having a bad day I can actively play a different deck and try to get ahead that way. In Arena it just feels we are forced to beat each other up with inefficient tools. While that can be fun, somehow people manage to magically get insane drafts consistently (probably by resigning their bad runs and throwing out their long saved Arena tickets. While I can see, that is great to have finally found a way to make people use their tickets, it doesn't feel like a fair system to me and the rich will beat the poor and just people with lots of tickets are able to reach legend).

Reaching legend is a way of a grind. Kudos to all players that made it all the way up from 12. I have to say I tried. I wanted to get legend in both modes, but then in the middle of the season I had to realise, that even reaching rank 4 and then making top 100 on the ladder will be a stretch and I did put a lot of time into it. It just feels supergrindy now. Ever since I switched from Hearthstone I was happy with TESL, that it wasn't that grindy, but I think it has changed now. And I have to say I feel really bad for everyone, that made it to Arena legend this month and wasn't even put on the dang monthly list. That was so much effort, but they did not even get rewarded. I think a top 100 list was promised and not even communicated before, that this month it will be capped with 25.

That just about 50 people were able or had the time and tickets to make it to Arena legend is another problem. It may have a mixture of reasons, but I would say maybe the ladder system isn't the best idea for arena, when not even 500 people can make it to legend regularly

for me personally Arena has changed drastically, maybe I am just too bad as a player and have to git gud, but I have had a lot of 7 wins in the last 2 years. One month I even had fourteen 7 win runs in a row. Right now I have reached a new low of three 0:3 runs in a row and I barely go even 3:3 right now. I have adapted my drafting and I think there is still room to get better in drafting and playing both, but still something is off here.

Arena is just too random, when it comes to the cards, there is only so much you can afford to play around. It also feels like some days there is a higher chance of getting lots of epics and legendaries in a draft and on other days it isnt. If there is such things, that weekends give you higher chance for epics and legendaries, I think developers should be open about it.

TESL is a huge timesink, being high on the ladder means I have to play quite a few games each month, looking at Arena I just feel tired, frustrated and sad, that something I have enjoyed all these years have become like this.

    I would recommend

    - rotation of sets, so there is a way to play around certain powerful cards, but you aren't forced to play around everything (maybe 2 or 3 months long, so a meta can settle)

    - better rewards, playing Arena is much less profitable now than playing ladder (more gold and free tickets)

    - extra stars for max wins

    - opening up the win slot, so that you can get up to 9 wins and get really good rewards for that. It just feels bad to get a good draft and then be capped at 7 wins

    - better matchmaking, it takes really long to queue and the matchmaking has changed drastically

    - punish people from resigning their runs more, it has to be 3 losses for resigning a run. I think every run should be played out or resigning it should be the same as going 0:3

    Edit (things i forgot)

    - special cardbacks for Arena, also maybe a whole new symbol for Arena legend

How do you all feel about Arena right now? Anything i did forget, anything you see different?

What's the most damage that can be dealt by turn 2?

    Posted: 04 Nov 2019 07:59 AM PST

Saw the challenge for winning a game by turn 3 and I was curious if it's possible to win on turn 2. I don't think it's possible, but how far can we get?

    My best attempt:

    • Turn 1: [[Iliac Sorcerer]], and equip [[Trusty Sword]] and [[Steel Scimitar]]
    • Turn 2: [[Rapid Shot]] your ward to get him to 10/3 (and more importantly, draw another card). Give him another ward with [[Lesser Ward]] and equip [[Sword of the Inferno]] to swing for 24 damage.

So 24 damage is as high as I can get, and it requires the ring and impossible odds of drawing specific cards. Any other ideas?

What's your story for the worst BM (bad manners) opponent you've seen?

    Posted: 04 Nov 2019 11:45 AM PST

I was in Versus Casual with a deck designed specifically to complete the three quests I had as quickly as possible: Gain 30 health with Drain, Give 30 creatures Cover and Move 10 creatures. The kind of decks used to get rid of quests quickly aren't very good at all so here I was, about to lose the match when my opponent starts BMing me with tons of emotes.

I'm just doing quests here with an otherwise grossly sub-optimal deck and he thinks he's cock of the walk for winning a game of Casual. Don't be that guy, you'll just end up looking like a tool.

    Any Progression Guides?

    Posted: 04 Nov 2019 09:37 AM PST

Just downloaded the game yesterday and beat the first two acts with the werewold deck. Having a blast with this game!

Is there a progression guide that tells me what to buy/work towards to make my first competitive ladder deck? I've read some guides but they don't specify a buying order or specific premades/packs to get.

    Moon Gate Disappeared

    Posted: 04 Nov 2019 02:38 AM PST

I was running out of time to finish my turn with 1 magicka left and I dropped a Moon Gate and hit the end turn button in very close succession, the animation played but no Moon Gate hit the board. Didn't go back in my hand, didn't go to graveyard, just... gone. I was left with zero magicka too so I know I paid for it. Woulda lost anyway and totally meming around so not even mad, just like 🤔 Is this a known bug? Do I just need to allow a half a beat before ending my turn?

Bug: Game won't let me play my newly crafted deck on any game type. Anyone know why? (All my other decks work)

[concern] Attacks chained/qued into attack animation can halt and basically tell you that you are about to break into the (second) prophecy. TESTING NEEDED.

    Posted: 04 Nov 2019 07:30 AM PST

I am not 100% sure about this one, as it happens to me once in maybe 50 games, but I've noticed this odd behaviour couple of times already. It is not easy to emulate since you need a specific board situation.

Anyways, when I make multiple attacks faster than animation plays, sometimes my chained/qued actions get canceled by a red "not a valid targed" - while I am pretty sure that I clicked and released attack on opponents face.

Last few times my attack chain/que got broken just before I am about to break into the (second?!) prophecy, possible signaling me the a crucial INFORMATION. Believe it or not, I've started subconsciously tripping on this and understanding it as - halt - you're about to break into prophecy.

I might be completely wrong here, as it is pretty hard to simulate the scenarion - but I want you guys to check it out and try to simulate the scenarion. Basically you need 3+ attackes with 3+ damage and command them into face attacks really really fast; see if (and WHEN) exactly your action will get halted by "not a valid target".

New Main Menu Background (Patch 2.15)

    Posted: 03 Nov 2019 02:00 PM PST

Patch 2.15 introduced a new main menu background on 10/31/19 (it has the Legends symbol with the 5 colored attributes circling it - they light up when you click it).

I would like to download this and use as my wallpaper, but I have not been able to find this on the internet or on Bethesda's website. If anyone manages to get ahold of this, please do share.
